Dorothy N. Guse of Juneau passed away Monday September 11, 2017 at the age of 95 years.  Dorothy was born on October 6, 1921 to Louis and Hattie (nee Stassburg) Nehls in Juneau. Dorothy was baptized and a lifetime member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Juneau, WI.   She attended school at Juneau High School and graduated in 1939.  Dorothy grew up on the family farm and worked alongside her mother in the home helping prepare meals for the hired men.  She married Roger Guse and moved to Beaver Dam for a short period of time where she worked at a shoe factory. When Roger was killed during World War II she moved back to the family farm and went to work for her father in the office. Dorothy was a secretary for the family farm until her retirement in 2007. She was blessed to have had many friends. She traveled to numerous countries.  She loved learning about history of countries and their people. She enjoyed spending her free time at her cottage in Wautoma, on Cyrstal Lake.

 Dorothy was a member of the Gold Star Wives, The Juneau American Legion, Salvation Army, Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, National Heart Association, and Diabetes Association.  She has been an ongoing supporter of the troops, US Olympic Committee, USO, and Paralyzed Veterans. She also volunteered at Bethesda for many years.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Roger, her parents, Louis and Hattie, her dear sister Mildred, brothers Willard, Karl, and Louis.  Also, nephew Bobby Nehls and special friend Walt Miller.

She is survived by her sisters-in-law Lola Nehls and Dorothy Nehls Knaup and many nieces and nephews.

 

Visitation is Wednesday September 13, 2017 from 11AM-12Noon at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Juneau.  Funeral service will follow at Noon at church.  Rev Paul Schupmann will officiate.  Interment Juneau City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers Dorothy’s wish was for donations made to Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, www.semperfifund.org or Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Blvd., Suite 102, PMB 609, Oceanside, CA 92057.
