Harold Rupnow Obituary

Harold A. Rupnow of Juneau passed away peacefully into his Savior’s waiting arms on Friday, March 23, 2018 at Matthews of Horicon Assisted Living at the age of 90 years.

 

He was born August 26, 1927, to Emil and Leona (nee Nell) Rupnow.  His mother died shortly after his birth, so he was loving raised by an Aunt and Uncle, Martin and Esther (nee Korth) Rupnow.  Harold was a life member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Juneau., where he was baptized, confirmed and married his bride of 69 ½ years., Marion Friese, on September 12, 1948.

 

He farmed for 13 years after they married, then had several other jobs before becoming a John Deere man.  He retired from John Deere in 1987.  He spent his retirement years fishing, caning chairs, cracking hickory nuts and playing cards.  He loved nothing more than beating Marion in a game of cribbage!

 

He is survived by his loving wife Marion, daughter Ellen (Rick) Bassette of Juneau, his son Charles (Cathy) Rupnow of Minnesota, son-in-law Fred (Judy) Wackett, his grandchildren, Brian (Yvette) Wackett, Brad (Tammy) Wackett, Brooke (Tom) Jollie, Scott (Kim) Vigness-Bassette, Eli (Shannon) Rupnow, Joe (Erin) Rupnow, and Josh (Katie) Rupnow; step grandchildren. Callie (Matt) Nimmo, 20 great grandchildren, 4 step great-grandchildren, 2 step great-great- grandchildren; his brothers-in-law Robert Friese and Daniel Dutzle, sister-in-law Janice Friese.  Also surviving are nieces, nephew’s other relatives and friends,

He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Sharon Wackett, granddaughter, Jackie Bassette, his brothers Melvin, Marvin and Howard Rupnow, his sisters-in-law Rosie Rupnow and Betty Dutzle, his brother-in-law Donald Friese.

 

 

 

 

 

Visitation is Tuesday March 27, 2018 from 10-12Noon at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Juneau.  Funeral service will follow at 12Noon.   Rev. Paul Schupmann and Rev. David Brandt will officiate.  Interment Juneau City Cemetery.  

The family would like to thank The Matthews of Horicon staff for their care and helping create a wonderful home for the pas 9 months. Also, a special thank you to the BDCH Hospice, especially Rachel, Ellen, Meghan for all their care and support.
