Herbert W Guenther Sr., 91, of Iron Ridge Wisconsin passed away peacefully at his retirement home in Menomonee Falls WI on Monday, May 29, 2017.  Marilyn, his wife of 59 years, was present at his death.  Herb and Marilyn were married October 26th, 1957. 

 

Herbert was born on February 10th, 1926 in Waukesha County to Henry and Tillie (Hamann) Guenther.  Herb grew up on and later farmed with his father on Silver Spring and Marcy roads in Menomonee Falls until he was called to serve in the US Army in Korea.

 

He served in the Corps of Engineers working on constructing the first hard surface road from the capitol Seoul to the port city of Incheon.  He took pride in the work of the US Army and that of the South Korean people as they built their nation.

 

After returning from his service in Korea he met and married school teacher Marilyn Siegmann.  Together they purchased an 80 acre farm in the Town of Herman in Dodge County and as the family grew purchased and moved to a 180 acre farm also in the Town of Herman in Dodge County east of Iron Ridge.   Herb was active in the community, serving on the board of the Iron Ridge Cooperative Association as well as in later years in the local VFW.  He was a 3rd Degree Master Mason in the Neosho WI Masonic Lodge.

 

He is survived by his loving wife Marilyn and their eight children: Herbert (Debbie) of New Berlin; Caroline of Menomonee Falls; Aaron (Liz) of Green Bay; Helen (Sam)  Sapienzae of Palm Springs, CA; Gretchen (Claude) Hutchens of Woodstock, IL; William (Davene) of Hoover, AL; Marilyn of Midlothian TX; and Karl (Amy) of Dallas, TX. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  Also survived by other relatives and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Tillie (Hamann) Guenther, his brother and Sister-in-law, Henry Jr. and Priscilla; his sister and Brother-in-law Margaret and Clark Johnson; his brother and Sister-in-law Roy and Gertrude; his brother John; his brother and Sister-in-law Norman and Dorothy, and his parents-in-law, Leonard and Erna Siegmann.

 

Visitation Wednesday, June 7, 2017 from 11:00-1:00 p.m. at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home-Hartford.  Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home.  Rev. James Schleif will officiate. 

Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.

 

In Lieu of flowers, contributions to the Milwaukee Rescue Mission are appreciated.
