Marilyn Guenther Obituary

Marilyn S Guenther, 89, of Iron Ridge Wisconsin passed to eternal life with Jesus at her retirement home in Palm Springs CA on Tuesday, January 15, 2019.  Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Herbert.  Herb and Marilyn were married October 26th, 1957.

Marilyn was born on November 23, 1929 in Washington County to Leonard and Erma (Milbrot) Siegmann.  Marilyn grew up on a dairy farm just west of St Lawrence WI.  She attended the Milwaukee Bible Institute (now Grace Christian University Grand Rapids MI) followed by 3 years of service in the US Army in the WAC. During her service in the US Army she served as a nurse’s assistant and worked as an assistant to the chaplain’s office at Ft McPherson GA. She remembered being called on for many blood donations for infants needing blood as she was universal donor blood type O negative.   After returning from her service in the army she attended Downer Normal School (Now UWM) and received a teaching certificate.  She taught 6th grade at Marcy Elementary School in Menomonee Falls, WI.  She met Herb who had attended the same school as a youth when he did a presentation on the Korean War.  Together they purchased an 80-acre farm in the Town of Herman in Dodge County. As the family grew, they purchased and moved to a 180-acre farm also in the Town of Herman in Dodge County east of Iron Ridge.

In addition to managing a large household, Marilyn did some substitute teaching at area schools.  In her later years she enjoyed quilting. Many of the quilts she made are treasured by her children and grandchildren. She also served on the Herman Consolidated school board for several terms.

She is survived by her eight children: Herbert (Debbie) of New Berlin; Caroline of Dallas TX; Aaron (Liz) of Green Bay; Helen (Sam) Sapienzae of Palm Springs, CA; Gretchen (Claude) Hutchens of Woodstock, IL; William (Davene) of Hoover, AL; Marilyn of Midlothian TX; and Karl (Amy) of Dallas, TX. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.  Marilyn is also survived by her sister Pearl (Robert) Czisny of Rubicon and sister-in-law Ruth (Leonard) Siegmann.  She is also survived by other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Erma (Milbrot) Siegmann, her sister and brother-in-law Bernice and Elmer Shaver; her brother Leonard (Ruth) Siegmann Jr., and her parents-in-law, Henry and Tillie (Hamann) Guenther.

Private Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
