Norbert E. Gerbitz

Norbert E. Gerbitz of Juneau passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the age of 90 years.  He was born on May 4, 1926 in Watertown, the son of Kurt and Meta (nee Quandt) Gerbitz.  He married Anita Roll in 1948.  After Anita’s passing in 1986, he married Marcella Kohrt.  Norb was a dairy farmer, and farmed in the Juneau area; he was known as a very hard worker.  He was involved with various farm organizations.  Norb enjoyed traveling , and visited all 50 states and a number of countries.  One of his many interests was genealogy, and he was a member of “The Camera Club”.  He was a frequent vendor at various farmer’s markets where he sold his produce, hickory nuts, and rag rugs.  Norb graduated from Juneau High School and attended the yearly alumni banquets.  For the Juneau Historical Society, he mapped out “Old Juneau”.  He was a longtime member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church and served on numerous committees and boards.  Norb was a great fan of polka music.  He loved it because it is joyful music.

He is survived by his children, Lucia (Stephen) Westgate of Michigan, David (Christine) Gerbitz of Juneau, Robert Gerbitz of Juneau, Claudia (Randy) Hegg of Mukwonago, Gordon Gerbitz of California, Julie Gerbitz-Aubrey of Utah.  Also survived by eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, step-children, step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.  He is preceded in death by his wives, Anita, and Marcella, and his sister Adeline Nehls.

Visitation is Thursday, March 16, 2017 at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Juneau from 10 a.m. – noon.  Funeral service will follow at Church at noon.  Rev. Paul Schupmann will officiate.  Internment Juneau City Cemetery.  The Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home-Juneau is serving the family.
