August Nurkala Obituary

August Paul Nurkala of Amberg, formerly of Jackson, passed away Friday July 24, 2026, at the age of 75 years.

He was born September 10, 1950 in Milwaukee, WI to Carl and Margaret (nee Blankenheim) Nurkala.

August graduated from Washington High School in Germantown and later studied auto body repair at Moraine Park Technical College. He began his working years driving truck for Coke Distribution while spending evenings painting trucks at Liesener Soils. His dedication and strong work ethic eventually led him to a full-time career at  Liesener 's, where he worked for more than 40 years driving truck, painting and auto body, and fabricating equipment. He took great pride in his work and was known for his ability to fix, build, and create almost anything.

Outside of work, August had a passion for cars and could often be found repairing, restoring, or flipping vehicles. His resourcefulness and determination helped create countless family memories, including vacations that his family treasured. He was the kind of person who never hesitated to help others, freely sharing his time, tools, equipment, and expertise with anyone in need.

August loved spending time at the cabin up north, hunting, riding ATVs, working with his tractor, planting trees, or looking for Agates in the UP of Michigan. More than anything, he treasured time with family and friends. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend whose love, generosity, and steady presence will be deeply missed. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart and were among his greatest joys in life.

He is survived by his sons; Paul (Sherrie) Nurkala and James Nurkala (Marina); sister Susan (Pat) Brock, Tag (Earl) Moder; brother John Nurkala (Roseann); grandchildren Audrie, Lillyann, and Natalie Nurkala; his former wife Deborah Nurkala. Along with many other cherished relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Margaret Nurkala; grandson Matthew Nurkala; brother Carl Nurkala; sister in-law Connie Nurkala; and best friend Scott Greve.

The family would like to thank the staff at Agrace Hospice and Autumn Oaks Assisted Living in Slinger for the care and comfort.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor August’s memory may make a memorial contribution to his estate.
