David Scott Downer

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of David Scott Downer, on October 22nd, 2025.

Born on July 14th, 1978, Dave was a graduate of Richfield Elementary, Hartford Union Highschool, and earned an Automobile Mechanics degree at Moraine Park Technical College. Dave touched many lives along his life’s journey. He loved spending time with family and friends, and was a fun, life-of-the-party guy. He was a very cheerful, happy person, that smiled a lot, even when times were tough.   Our favorite memories with him included camping, swimming, fishing, hunting, riding bikes, summer vacations at grandma Downer’s with cousins and family, boat rides with knee boarding the legendary Frog Board on Lake Wisconsin, day trips to Devils Lake State Park, pizza dinners at the Old Schoolhouse Restaurant, Wisconsin Dells water parks, bonfires, listening to music, karaoke, talking about cars, and going to Brewer games. David loved his niece and nephews and enjoyed giving them advice and teaching them things. He tried to pass on his mechanical skills that he knew best. Dave excelled at fixing cars and small engines, so he showed them how to handle tools and repair their toys or assemble new gifts.  He practiced baseball with them, showed them his best dance moves, talked to them about the Brewers, Packers, WWE wrestling, whatever they liked. He enjoyed watching their baseball, softball, and volleyball games, and came to cheer them on when he could. He will be deeply missed by all of them, and our entire family.

After a courageous battle with the neurological disease Ataxia, Dave passed away peacefully. He is survived by his loving parents Lynda Downer (mother), Keith Downer (father), Keag Downer (stepmother); brother Brian Downer, sister Lindsey Schumacher (nee Downer), sister-in-law Sheena Downer, brother-in-law Steve Schumacher; niece Brooke Downer, and nephews Andrew Downer, Sawyer Schumacher, Cooper Schumacher, Colton Schumacher, and Hudson Schumacher.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 7, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home located at 226 South Main Street in Hartford, Wisconsin 53027. Family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 4:00 p.m.- 5:45 p.m.
