Marian Bascombe Obituary

Marian Ruth Bascombe (nee Broeske) passed away peacefully on July 20, 2018 at the age of 89, surrounded by her family in the Garden View Unit at Community Memorial Hospital.

She was born on June 30, 1929, in Dorchester, Wisconsin, to Edwin and Lillian Broeske.  She is survived by three daughters: Suzan Bascombe of Portage, Michigan, Cathy (Rick) Romanski of Hubertus, Wisconsin, and Debbie (Paul) Key of Hustisford, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren: Becca Hart (Scott Prox) of Genoa City, Wisconsin, James (Jessaca) Hart, of Portage, Michigan, Brian Wajerski, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Katy (Mike) Gengler, of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, Rachel (Phillip) Spearo, of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, Andy (Susie) Key, of Hustisford, Wisconsin, Jeff (Megan) Key, of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Megan Key, of Port Washington, Wisconsin; and eight great-grandchildren: Anthony Levine, Carolyn Hart, Michael and Jacob Gengler, Ellison and Brynn Spearo, and Lilly and Liam Key.  She is also survived by a sister, Elaine Bockin of Medford, Wisconsin, and two brothers: Edwin (Dorothy) Broeske of Richfield, Wisconsin, and Norman Staab of Medford, Wisconsin.  She is further survived by many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Marian was a loving and caring mother and grandmother.  Her smile was evidence of this whenever her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were with her.  She was a generous Christian woman who always put the needs of others ahead of her own.  She belonged to Calvary UCC when her daughters were young, and in recent years she was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Richfield, Wisconsin.  She held a special place in her heart for Rev. Donald Koehn and wife Joyce for their spiritual support over the years.

Marian was a homemaker and had a love of baking.  She made the best breads, doughnuts, cakes, and cookies for her family and friends.  She held jobs outside the home throughout her years, but most loved working as Head Edit Clerk and Trainer at the JC Penney Catalog Center on Burleigh, retiring after 25 years of service.  She and her dear fellow retirees held monthly lunch outings mostly at Maxim’s in Brookfield.  After retirement from JC Penney she was a loving caregiver to many children for years.  Marian continued to share her love of children and learning by serving as a RSVP volunteer in her daughter’s class at Maple Avenue School for many years.

Marian was an avid sports fan, cheering on all of Wisconsin’s home teams, and enjoyed reading and keeping up with current events.  She also took care of feeding the birds and loved watching them in her yard.  In her younger days, Marian enjoyed traveling to both US coasts, and many other states along the way.

She will be dearly missed by her family, relatives, and friends.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018, Visitation 10:00 a.m, at The First Presbyterian Church of Richfield, 2281 State Road 164 Richfield, WI 53076.  Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m.  Pastor Barbara Jordan will be officiating.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials to Community Memorial Foundation are appreciated and will be donated to the Healing Garden in Marian’s memory.
