Richard Kalashian Obituary

Of Waukesha, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at the age of 81 years. Richard was born on October 24, 1943.

A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Richard was deeply passionate about supporting his fellow veterans. He dedicated much of his time and energy to raising funds and providing assistance to those who served. This commitment was exemplified by a special project he undertook: recognizing the need for a more dignified way to greet fallen soldiers returning to Milwaukee, Richard independently designed and oversaw the construction of a custom casket cart, partnering with local hot rod shops to bring his vision to life.

Beyond his service, Richard had a deep passion for cars, particularly classic and collector vehicles. He owned four prized collector cars and was a regular participant in car shows, where his meticulously maintained vehicles consistently earned him "Best in Show" awards. More than just the cars themselves, Richard cherished the connections he made with fellow enthusiasts at these events. He had a natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life, making friends wherever he went. Of all the stories he shared, those about his beloved granddaughter, Stella, were among his favorites. She was a constant source of joy and pride, and he spoke of her often to anyone he met.

Richard is survived by his loving daughter, Laura (Kevin) Houlihan and their daughter, Stella Houlihan. He is also survived by his two sisters, Sandy Densmore and Kristine MacDonald and one brother, John Kalashian, as well as his beloved fiancé, Sandy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Christine.

Richard was an exceptional man. Even with everything he endured in Vietnam and during his Cancer treatments, he remained friendly and gracious to everyone he met - a kind hearted, humble and generous man, he always had a warm smile on his face. He was our Paga and our best friend. He was just the best guy you’ll ever meet. The best Grandpa and Dad.
