Walter “Walt” Paul Genske, a man of boundless ingenuity, deep love for his family, and an unending quest for learning and problem-solving, entered eternal rest on March 15, 2025. Walt was born in New Berlin, WI, and spent much of his life in Brookfield before enjoying his later years in the peaceful Town of Erin, which perfectly reflected his love for nature and the outdoors.
Born on August 24, 1943, Walt graduated from Boys Tech in 1961 before earning his degree in electrical engineering from Marquette University. Walt was a valued ham radio operator for fifty years, first for the Civic Air Defense and then later for the Civilian DOD. His sharp mind and innate ability to create and fix anything led him to a successful electrical engineer career with Allis Chalmers before transitioning into a global sales position with Rexnord. He later became a highly accomplished sales executive with Honeywell, receiving numerous distinguished awards. However, his true calling and passion was in the marine electronics industry—where his vision, skill, and determination built C&E Marine into a sought-after and respected business. Walt could bring an idea to life, whether it was an electrical repair or a dream on the water.
Beyond his career, Walt lived a life open to new adventures. He was an avid sailor and sportsman active in field dog training. His hands were rarely idle, always working on a project, a repair, or a new vision of how things could work better. He saw the world through a lens of possibility and shared that gift with those around him.
Walt was predeceased by his parents, Victoria and Harvey Genske. He is survived by his loving wife, Deb Petritz; his brother, Roger Genske (Marilyn); his children, Randy Genske, Mike Genske, Shari McGlynn (Don), and Janet Baker (Bill); and his stepchildren, Mark Petritz (Holly), Scott Petritz (Jenn), and Kim Krogstad (Matt). He was a proud and devoted grandfather who cherished every moment with his twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His love extended beyond his human family to his beloved dogs, Abbey, Brandy, and Lily, who gave him immense joy.
Walt’s legacy is one of hard work, ingenuity, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.
Family will greet relatives and friends, celebrating Walt’s life, Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 10:00 a.m.-10:45 a.m., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m., at St. Kilian Catholic Church, 264 W. State Street Hartford, Wisconsin 53027, with Rev. Britto Suresh officiating. Immediately following Mass, interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford, Wisconsin.
