U.S. Army Specialist Xavier Mason Irizarry was born to eternal life on Tuesday December 8, 2020 at the age of 25. A veteran who served two deployments, one in Afghanistan and another in Kuwait, Xavier was stationed at Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division in upstate New York at the time of his passing. He was born on August 21, 1995 in Pembroke Pines, FL. For his military service, Xavier earned numerous medals and commendations including: Afghanistan Campaign Medal w/Bronze Service Star; Army Achievement Medal w/”C” Device, 2; National Defense Service Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NATO Medal and Army Good Conduct Medal, among others. Xavier exuded an often playful personality with a healthy sense of humor and natural curiosity. His early hobby interests included a fascination with firearms and while he was in the Army, his friends nicknamed him “Izzy.”
He is survived by his mother, Heidi Klinkert Acosta and her husband Paulo Acosta; his sisters Nyna Sanchez and Mia Acosta and his brother, Elijah Acosta. Survivors also include his niece Eliyah Sanchez and nephew Roman Sanchez; his grandmother Leslie Ashford and grandfathers Neil Klinkert and Tom Andrews as well as the Roberts Family in South Dakota.
